In this collaboratory we will analyse how creative media practices can reshape the historical narratives and contemporary spatial practices of Tokyo. Through the lens of the three Tokyo Olympics in 1940, 1964 and 2021, we will examine the imperial, high-growth and post-growth forces that regulate urban space and look towards movements that provide alternative visions of Tokyo. Using creative media practices to document, archive and map new spatial practices, we will examine how collaborative creative practices can foreground relations of care. We will engage with critical cartography, counter-archives and creative practice ethnographies, to imagine alternative forms of the city and co-create archaeologies of the future.
